The calculators and guides on this site produce estimates, not measurements. They work from published density figures and from the dimensions you type in. Real materials vary.

Pea gravel weight changes with the parent stone, the size of the screen it passed through, how settled the load is and how much rain has fallen on it. Published densities for the same material span roughly 1.21 to 1.42 US tons per cubic yard, which is a spread of about 17 percent. This site uses 100 lb per cubic foot and publishes that assumption openly, but it remains an assumption.

Confirm quantities with your supplier before ordering, particularly when buying by weight. They weighed the pile. We did not.

Nothing on this site is engineering, construction, safety or legal advice, and no professional relationship is created by using it.

Depth recommendations, base layers, drainage and slope guidance describe common practice, not a specification for your site. Ground conditions, drainage, loading, local codes and permit requirements vary, and none of them are visible from here.

For anything structural, anything carrying vehicles, anything to do with drainage away from a building, or anything a permit covers, consult a qualified local professional. Playground surfacing in particular is governed by published safety guidance that depends on fall height and equipment, and is beyond what a quantity calculator can answer.

• The calculators are free, with no account, and you may use them for personal or commercial projects.
• Your measurements stay in your browser. Nothing you type into a calculator is sent to us or stored on a server.
• The density data is openly licensed. The figures on the density data page are published under CC BY 4.0, so you may reuse them, including commercially, with attribution.
• The written content, graphics and page designs remain ours. Quote a passage with credit and a link by all means. Republishing pages wholesale is not permitted.
• Do not use the site in a way that disrupts it for other people, such as automated requests at a rate that affects availability.

Figures are checked against primary sources where they exist, and every page names the sources it relies on. Even so, errors happen, prices move and standards are revised.

If a number here is wrong, tell us. Send it to [email protected], ideally with your source, and it will be reviewed. Corrections are made openly rather than quietly, and supplier data is genuinely welcome.

Pages carry a review date so you can see how current a figure is. Cost figures in particular date faster than physical constants.

The site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of this site. That includes ordering too much or too little material, project costs, delays, or decisions taken on the basis of an estimate produced here. The decision to order, and the quantity ordered, is yours.

Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not permit it to be limited.

Pages link to external sources such as USGS and CPSC publications, supplier pages and cost guides. Those sites are not under our control, and a link is not an endorsement. Their content and their privacy practices are their own.

The site uses Google Analytics, and may carry advertising in future. How that works, what is collected and how to opt out is set out in the privacy policy.

These terms may change as the site grows. The date below shows when they were last revised, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised version.
